What do you do when you can’t sleep?
Do you count sheep? Do you toss and turn all night? Without sleep, we cannot heal our bodies or get the necessary rest our body needs to function properly. The search for natural remedies that really work is something that eludes many people.
Sometimes no matter how old you are or what is going on in your life, for no reason you just can’t sleep. Now some people blame it on health issues, diet issues, mental issues but really sometimes it is for no reason at all.
I get those times when I feel I just have to get up and do something, sometimes I write, or clean, or organize or watch tv, there is no reason for it and I don’t go looking or a reason.
However, sometimes we want to go to sleep and we need to go to sleep. Healing takes place when we sleep and the less time for sleep the less time for healing ourselves.

Melatonin is produced by the brain naturally, however, Hormones are released usually later afternoon early evening when the body is getting ready for sleep. This gets interrupted when you watch tv for long periods, use tablets, computers, and phones. This stops the melatonin from kicking in naturally. This is the reason most people cannot fall asleep easily and now it is also affecting children due to the increase in the use of electronics.
Lavender is a great help in relaxation it has the ability to eliminate nervous tension and relieve pain – a study of college students found that using lavender oil improved the overall quality of sleep by 60%.
Valerian can be added to your bath water to aid in sleep, it works like a sedative on the brain and nervous system. Valerian can be found in oils, pills and liquid form. Some people use valerian for depression, mild tremors, epilepsy, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
The stress of trying to go to sleep can cause you to get less sleep. You wake up tired and then more stress and anxiety. Viscous cycle!!! The brain needs to have darkness and relaxation to know it is time to sleep. Unfortunately, we are on our computers, phones, tablets so much and therefore the brain is getting light all the time and does not shut down for sleep like it should.
