Every day clients come to me with so much stress in their lives. Stress levels are always sitting at 5+ which is not a good way to be starting your day no matter who you are. There are so many stressors these days and our goal is to eliminate them and have good easy strategies to use daily.
I really enjoy giving my clients strategies to deal with and eliminate stress, this gives them a feeling of empowerment. Which is what I am here to do. Empower and Inspire.
Getting a strategy that works for you is key to reducing your stress levels and staying healthy. You may not know it but you already have a strategy for being stressed. You have to change that negative strategy to a more resourceful positive strategy. Yes it can be done!!!.
How can you re-train your brain?
As I have mentioned before you can re-train your brain to do many positive resourceful things. You learn very easily and believe me you can unlearn your negative habits just as quickly and easily.
Here are some strategies to help challenge your brain to reduce stress.
- Try new activities
- Physical Activity (different from what you already do)
- Virtual Zen Garden
The brain needs something to do all the time, it needs to work all the time. Therefore giving it new activities and making them challenging activities keeps the mind occupied and therefore has no time to go thinking about stress. Also there is no time for negative self talk if your brain is occupied doing something positive and constructive.
Taking a different way home from work or a different route to the stores keeps your mind thinking and active. It also keeps your conscious mind active and does not give you time to think about stress and anxiety. Whilst your brain is active working out how to do new tasks your blood pressure drops, your brain chemicals change and your stressors reduce, you become calmer. Your stress levels will now go down to a 2 or a 3 which is a much healthier place to be. Optimum health of course is Zero.
What else can you do?
There are many apps and online places that offer brain games. These help with Parkinsons Disease and Alzheimers which can both be helped with brain exercises.
Bruce Lipton wrote a great book called The Biology of Belief where he explains how the brain can regenerate brain cells just like the liver and other cells in our bodies. Therefore by re-training our brains we can re-grow the cells to help us remember things and also release stress. This book is one of the best explaining conscious and unconscious and how the brain heals. Using simple language, illustrations, humor, and everyday examples, he demonstrates how the new science of Epigenetics is revolutionizing our understanding of the link between mind and matter and the profound effects it has on our personal lives and the collective lives of our species.
Training your brain to relieve stress is much easier than taking medications which alter the natural chemical structure of your brain. Medication is a temporary band aid for the triggers causing stress therefore would you not want to try something that is permanent and has no side effects. (Please do not come off or alter any medications without consulting your medical practitioner)
Everyday do something different to challenge your brain and see your stress reduce. Let me know what strategies work best for you and how you know they are working.
Please share for others to benefit also. Need help finding strategies book a personal consultation.
