What is in bread?
Do you know what is in your bread? I love bread, always have, the warmer and fresher the better. Bread was in my diet everyday, sandwiches, dipping in my favorite gravy and of course toasted at breakfast.
I discovered most of my aches, pains and bloating was mainly due to eating all this bread.
I was tested by my holistic doctor and there it was –an allergy to wheat, but also additives which are put into bread. Never knew about these!!!
Bread with Potassium Bromate is commonly used in flours, so all your hot dog buns, hamburger buns and all your bread products are full of bromide.
Bromated flour is “enriched” with potassium bromate banned in most countries.
How is bread made?
Commercial baking companies claim it makes the dough more elastic and better able to stand up to bread hooks. However, Pepperidge Farm and other successful companies manage to use only un-bromated flour without any of these so-called “structural problems.” Studies have linked potassium bromate to kidney and nervous system damage, thyroid problems, gastrointestinal discomfort, and cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies potassium bromate as a possible carcinogen.
Now I eat Gluten free breads or sprouted bread, most of the time I go without now.
Sprouting and fermenting grains leads to many beneficial effects. It increases the amino acid lysine, reduces anti-nutrients (like phytic acid and lectins), disables enzyme inhibitors and makes nutrients more accessible.
You might think to yourself well we have been eating bread since time began, yes we have. Unfortunately, it is not grown the same way as it was when our ancestors were alive. Now it is not grown to the full size it used to and it is sprayed with all sorts of chemicals and pesticides, which is was not before.
Keep in mind wheat is used in pasta as well so you may want to reconsider the next time you want a pasta dish. Again you can buy gluten free pasta which does take a little longer to cook and it does taste just as good.
Bread is another basic food that has health risks attached to it. Being aware of what you are eating and more importantly what we are feeding the future generation is paramount to living a healthy lifestyle. Kids eat a lot of bread if they are eating fast foods which not only causes them to put on weight but also they may be allergic too.
We learn something from everyone who passes through our lives.. Some lessons are painful, some are painless.. but, all are priceless.” – Unknown
