Benefits of Body Detox – Why Should you Detox? – Disease does not live in alkaline body.

Inflammation causes disease

Is it really necessary to Detox?  What does your body benefit from a detox? What are the benefits of detoxing.

At the beginning of the year there are many people thinking about becoming more healthy.  Sometimes the first thing they think of is to do a detox to get themselves on the right track.

Then after detox they change their eating and exercise habits and start the journey.

Detoxing

Regular detoxing helps strengthen immune system functioning and fights off infection. Toxins affect the body’s natural ability to burn fat, leading to weight gain. …Detoxing rids the body of toxins stored in fat cells and increases metabolism.

Tumeric this bright-yellow spice to be a potent liver detoxifier and anti-inflammatory, not to mention an antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer agent.

There are a lot of people who do a detox many times in a month and some people have never detoxed.  I am not really sure your body builds up toxins, the liver and the kidneys job is to clear the body of toxins. However today we have so many toxins in the environment and in all the food that our organs are overloaded and therefore need some help to function.  Read more about liver function from the National Liver Foundation.

The liver breaks down the fats in the body to give us energy and also plays a central role in all metabolic processes in the body.

When you stop eating your body will think it is starving and therefore want to store fat, so if you are detoxing to lose weight it could have the opposite effect.  Our digestive system is a very intricate system and does a great job of keeping us together.

My view of a detox is to stop eating high sugar products, caffeine products, dairy, and wheat, alcohol, and meat. Eliminating these from your diet will give your system time to readjust itself naturally. Just my view.

Some other detox methods

  • Lemonade Water Detox
  • 3 Day CleanseWhat can I juice
  • Master Cleanse
  • Laxatives
  • Colonics
  • Enemas
  • Juicing

There are many people who will detox and make themselves very sick. They take it too far.

Knowing your body as I say in all my posts is the most important thing.  I know friends that detox on a regular basis and they are happy and healthy.  I also know people that have detoxed and landed up in the hospital with dehydration and a lot more unhealthy symptoms.

Balance and Common Sense

Use natural tools to lose weightA good balance of leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet daily which after a detox is quit smoking, give up coffee and increase your time spent exercising.I know after I have done a detox I do not want to drink alcohol or eat chocolate as I feel so good.

Most people will make a New Years Resolution to start a detox and a more healthy lifestyle.  Some other people decide it is a great idea just before summer.  Whenever you decide to get healthier your goal should be to feel good and love yourself.  Being motivated by an event is temporary and after the event, you have nothing to keep you motivated to stay healthy.  Therefore make your goal to be healthy and strong which is a life long goal and not temporary.

Short term health goals do not keep you motivated for you to make true healthy lifestyle change. Staying motivated and achieving your goals are key to your success. Having small goals to start with will help as you can achieve them more easily and then stay motivated to reach your end goal.

I wish you every success in your health goals.

Do you know someone who can benefit from this post, then please share this post with them so they may benefit, thank you.

I think I may just need a detox. I have lots of powdered turmeric in my cupboard. Thanks for telling me that it can be used to detox.

This is something I’ve wanted to try for a long time. However, I have some health conditions that make it so that I really have to talk to my doctor about something like this. It seems like a great thing for your body though.

Great news, being careful to make sure there is not too much sugar in the store bought, making your own you know where the vegetables and fruit came from.

Nice! I’ve always been doing a detox especially when I feel particularly bloated. I love the Lemon Water Detox as it forces me to drink tons of water during the day.

Sometimes we get headaches when detoxing as our body if we drink coffees, have chocolate and other toxins. Always best to check first before detoxing and monitoring what your body is telling you.

It’s always nice to be able to do a detox, even for just once every four weeks. I think it’s not only going to help you lose weight but allow your body to clean itself up as well.

Using a detox to lose weight can help but must be monitored as some people can over do it when they see the weight coming off and detox for too long. Having a healthy lifestyle and diet is key to losing weight and keeping it maintained.

Detoxing nowadays is very important in our body to wash away all the chemicals we consume with the food we eat, our lifestyle and the environment we live in.

I have tried other detox ways, mostly supplements and all have had “meh” results. I want to do a detox like the turmeric but, timing wold be awful for me. I want to do one when I have a week of nothing going on. Currently: 2 jobs, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a cat have me busy.

You are a very busy person I can see. If you do not have time it is not a big deal, just cut down on the toxins you are taking and eat healthier and that can help just as well.

Being aware of what we put in our bodies is so important to our overall health and wellness. It gets harder all the time as there are so many foods and drinks that have chemicals and toxins in them all we can do is do our best.

I’ve never done a detox before but have wanted to try one for a long time. I’ve held off for ages out of concern for possible side effects, but I like the more common-sense approach of detoxing just by cutting out things that injure the body for a while. Then, I can’t imagine getting by if I tried to cut meat for too long – I have a protein disorder.

Cutting things out that are toxic and full of chemicals is very good for the body. Like I say all the time do what is best for you and not what other people do. Everyone is different and everyone has a different body type. Only you know what is best for you.

I’m not a big fan of detoxing. I think it can actually increase a lot of people’s desire to eat “banned” foods and ultimately going back to their old habits or even worse! But everyone is different 🙂

I hate the word detox. Eating a clean diet is a better way to look at it. If you eat healthfully, your body can detox itself just fine. The word detox always has people thinking = starving, juice fasts, etc… Which is not a great approach to ever take, even if you feel as though you stuffed yourself silly over the holidays.

    1. helenvella (Post author)

Totally agree with you, healthy eating and lifestyle does not call for a detox and as you starving etc. However sometimes some people’s colon can do with a little help in the cleansing process.

Not everything works for everyone, you have to work out what is best for you and your body. Finding a drink of supplement that works fo you is what counts. However you can do a good job by cutting out toxins for a few days and the body figures it out by itself.

    Hi Helen,

Thanks for the great information. I started my new health and fitness program on the 2nd January which is going really well, but what I haven’t done is included a regular detox plan. At my age (54 years old) I know I have to make better choices when it comes to diet and since Turmeric has so many benefits for kidneys and liver, I’ll try it out. Thanks again Helen 🙂

Should be done at least once a year if not twice. We need to give our bodies a break. I will definitely be detoxing in the spring. The so called spring cleaning if you will. That’s a great list of products to use. I have also used colonics in the past. I think if you’re feeling full and sluggish it’s time to kick start the body with a good detox. Really good post, I enjoyed it. Thank you.
